There was already a long line of pilgrims waiting for the 24 beds when I arrived after my short walk of 12K from Portugalete. Some pilgrims ended up sleeping on yoga mats in tents that apparently were put up yesterday by order of the mayor of Pobeña. I was fortunate enough to get a bed although I offered to sleep in the tent so that someone who had walked from Bilbao could have the bed.
A friend had recommended skipping the stage from Bilbao to Portugalete because it was the “ugliest 10km” he’d ever walked. So I did. And the next stage wasn’t my favorite although I did meet some other nice pilgrims like father and daughter, Giovanni and Esther from Italy and Miguel and Esther from Barcelona. Pics below.
Enjoying your adventures. Have fun and be safe. Lorraine
