San Geronimo Ridge Training Hike

March 8, 2015

“The sum of the whole is this: walk and be happy, walk and be healthy. “The best of all ways to lengthen our days” is not, as Mr. Thomas Moore has it, “to steal a few hours from night, my love;” but, with leave be it spoken, to walk steadily and with a purpose. The wandering man knows of certain ancients, far gone in years, who have staved off infirmities and dissolution by earnest walking,–hale fellows close upon eighty and ninety, but brisk as boys.”   —Charles Dickens

As I’m sure I’ve mentioned, I feel very grateful to have access to such beautiful places to do my Camino training hikes. I did this same hike a few weeks ago with my friend Tristan but that day, we were socked in by fog the entire hike. This time, we were able to see the stunning views…

I love that the gate had a blue arrow (a hint of things to come!)! What a gorgeous hike. What a completely different experience with the fog gone and the sun out. I think I mentioned this, but I wore the same shoes on my Camino (LOVE!). Have you chosen your sockage yet? And aren’t walking poles the best? I bought a pain in Logrono after trying—and loving—a pair that a Camino friend used. They make such a difference to me on ascents and descents, especially.

    Cheering you on!

I loved that arrow too. I didn’t know you were a Brooks Cascadia gal! Love those shoes and need to purchase two pair to take with me on this year’s long Camino. I use WrightSocks CoolMesh II socks. How about you?
